THAT YE MAY KNOW (Part 2)

1 John 5:9-13 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The writing of 1 John: Skepticism had begun to influence the lives of many.  It is believed that the first epistle of John was written as an introduction for the Gospel of John, which was written in response to the heretical teaching of a false teacher named Cerinthius.

The Apostle John addresses many false beliefs in his first epistle.

If we are to be effective for Christ there are some things we must know.

God does not want us to be in the dark. 1 John 1:5-7 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Last week we saw God wants us to know
1.       Our Sin Debt Has Been Paid. 1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was mani-fested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
2.       We Have Passed From Death Unto Life. 1 John 3:14a We know that we have passed from death unto life,..
3.       We Are Of The Truth. 1 John 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

God Wants Us To Know…
4.       HE IS IN US: 1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the agent of God in regeneration. Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

The Holy Spirit’s presence is evidence of Salvation. Romans 8:16  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

The Holy Spirit is our reminder that we belong to God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

The Holy Spirit is our provider of necessary tools for change & ministry. Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

God Wants Us To Know…
5.       WE ARE IN HIM1 John 5:20b and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ.  Notice…

The Crucial Connection (Man is incomplete without God). John 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

The Ministry (Bearing fruit). John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

The Purpose (To conform us to the image of Christ). John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

The Life (A new and better life). 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  Also 1 John 2:6

The Impartation. Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
